2009 also to be Visit Indonesia Year

If you didn't travel in Indonesia this year, don't worry -- 2009 will also be the year to visit, with the government planning to extend the "successful" Visit Indonesia program.

"At first many doubted the program's success, yet we have set a new record in our tourism history," Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik said Wednesday.

That record is to have received 6.4 million foreign tourist arrivals, which is the country is on track to meet.

According to an official report from the Central Statistics Agency, there were 4.3 million foreign tourist arrivals in the first nine months of the year.

Although this number is more than 2 million short of the program's target, Jero said he was convinced the full-year target would be met, as the tourist arrivals usually increase in the last quarter of the year, to generate around US$6 billion in foreign exchange income.

  2. Don't go to Indonesia if you value your personal freedom! The new anti-pornography law is one of the reasons not to go there. Imagine your wife will be in trouble when she is seen in her bikine. Indonesia is becoming to be a backward islamistic neighbourhood best to be avoided. Nobody tells me what to wear and what to drink. I was there a few months ago and was shocked by the intolerance fed by the islam. Next year will be Thailand again, never to return to Islamesia!

  3. I am an Indonesian who opposes the so-called anti-porn bill. The bill is the work of radical Moslems, many, including Balinese people, are against it. It is unfair to punish all Indonesians because of the bill

  4. Bah!
Don't you know that we are the largest hypocrite people? We only speak anti pornography in our lips but we silently enjoy every porn movie.

    Btw,
The bill of pornography does not maintain what kind of clothes you have to wear. It means, your wife can wear bikini in any beach in Indonesia.

It does, however, restrict the exposing of some part of body espescially for art. It will also restrict 'sensual movement' which also became problem for traditional dance. It is more trouble for us, Indonesians.

Tourist wouldn't have the problem. They will only find Indonesia became more dry than before.
