Bali has potential to develop adventure tourism

Director general of foreign promotion for the culture and tourism ministry, I Gede Pitana said Friday that 14 percent of foreign visitors to Bali enjoyed adventurous activities, such as diving. Furthermore, 47 percent of tourists sought adventurous sports on the island.

Pitana admitted that Bali still lacked the proper facilities to support adventure tourism, compared to Nepal with its famous mountain climbing or Australia's outback adventuring.

"In terms of variety, I believe Bali can top those countries as we have a wide range of adventure possibilities, such as diving, mountain climbing and archeological trips. However, we do need to develop more supporting facilities," said Pitana at a seminar titled "Exploring Adventure Tourism", in Sanur.
