I love it when airlines celebrate an anniversary — and give “gifts” to you and me. Singapore Airlines is marking its 30th year serving Los Angeles International Airport with a five-night tour of Singapore and Bali starting at a special rate of $1,299 per person.
The deal: The Singapore & Bali Celebration Package, for seven days/five nights, includes round-trip airfare from Los Angeles (San Francisco, New York and Houston for the same price); airport and hotel transfers; two nights in Singapore at Swissôtel the Stamford; flight to Bali; and three nights at the Nusa Dua Beach Hotel in Bali, with daily breakfast. Tours of both destinations round out the package, which starts at $1,299 per person, double occupancy, plus some taxes and fees.
When: Depart Mondays or Thursdays and travel from Sept. 1 to Nov. 30 and Jan. 1 to March 31. The offer, subject to availability, expires 11:59 PDT Aug. 31.
Tested: You can’t reserve this deal directly online; reservations are being handled by tour partner Sayang Holidays.
To find the deal, go to the Sayang Holidays home page and click on “Singapore Airlines Vacations” and then on the “Singapore & Bali Celebration Package.”
From here, you can review a detailed itinerary. The tour company prefers to handle requests through e-mail, so you will be asked to fill out an electronic form to request the dates you want. I did so — asking to leave Los Angeles on Oct. 4 — and then followed up with a call to a reservation agent, who assured me the trip was available on that date and would total $1,449 per person, including taxes.
When you crunch the numbers, this comes out to a pretty great deal. The airfares included in this package would normally run about $1,200 pre-tax per person, and hotel stays would add another $500 per person — and that’s without adding on sightseeing tours, breakfasts and other extras.
