The Surakarta Municipality will soon have four golden chariots to transport tourists. The funds to purchase the chariots will be included in the 2011 Surakarta Regional Budget. “If everything goes smoothly, we will have them by next year,” said Budy Sartono, the Surakarta Tourism Office official, yesterday.
The chariots will be used as Surakarta’s main tourist attraction. “We want to give the impression of a modern yet ancient city,” he said.
The chariots will be placed at strategic hotels and take tourists to sites like the palaces.
