Indonesia’s largest travel fair aims for 19% transaction growth this year

Astindo International Travel Fair 2012, the largest international travel fair in Indonesia, aims to book a total of Rp 50 billion (US $5.45 million) in transactions, a 19 percent increase on last year’s Rp 42 billion, an executive said in Jakarta on Friday.
"We are optimistic about reaching the target because the middle class is growing and traveling has become a life style," Indonesia Air Ticketing Association (Astindo) chairperson Elly Hutabarat said.
She also said that visitors to Astindo's second travel fair are projected to reach 50,000, a 28 percent increase on the 39,000 visitors last year.
"We offer great travel packages from medium to premier class with lower prices this year," she said.
As many as 77 exhibitors - travel agents, tourism boards, airlines and cruise lines - are participating in the travel fair that will last from March 16-18 at the Jakarta Convention Center in Central Jakarta.
National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, which is participating in the travel fair, aims to book Rp 16 billion in transactions this year, Helmy Kurniawan, the airline senior marketing communication manager said.
"We are offering discounts of up to 18 percent for both domestic and international flights this year," he said.
Last year, the airline was able to book Rp 8 billion in transactions at the travel fair.
