PATA offers awards for best tourism agencies

The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has offered 24 Gold Awards and four best-of-show Grand Awards to some best tourism agencies and government organizations in the area in a bid to promote the development of global tourism industry, reports reaching here Saturday from Indonesia's resort island Bali where PATA 2007 travel mart was being held.

India and Malaysia dominated the major categories of the gold awards which were presented to 21 winners.

Other Grand Award winners included Thailand in the Social and Environment Conscience Program category, Macao for its 2006 heritage program and Sri Lanka for education and training.

In the Gold Award categories, Singapore was successful in the Primary Government Marketing Campaign category, the Carrier Marketing Campaign award was won by Sri Lanka, the Video Marketing award by South Korea and the Public Relations Marketing award won by New South Wales Tourism in Australia.

Indonesia's Bali Update Internet newsletter managed by John B. Daniels from Bali Discovery Tours won Indonesia's only award.
