Indonesia Channel 2009 Participants to Promote Batik

Participants of the Indonesia Channel 2009, coming from 31 countries, are expected to promote Surakarta batik when they go back to their respective countries. The event’s participants included foreign artists who received the Indonesian Art and Culture Scholarship granted by the Foreign Affairs Department to study Indonesian traditions and art for three months.

According to Surakarta Culture and Tourism Office chief, Purnomo Subagyo, 50 scholarship recipients have stated their readiness to promote or introduce batik, and hoped that they can also boost export markets for Surakarta batik.
