The Jakarta Administration has been continuously promoting the city as a foreign tourist destination, setting its sight on boosting arrivals to 1.6 million by end of the year, says an official.
“I expect a significant increase [in foreign tourist arrivals] this year. I don’t want to see a repeat of the decline in 2009,” provincial tourism agency head Arie Budhiman was quoted by kompas.com on Tuesday.
According to the statistics agency, 1,450,000 foreign tourists visited the capital city last year, generating Rp 4.6 trillion (US$509.7 million) in revenue, down from 1,500,000 arrivals with Rp 5.2 trillion in revenue in the previous year.
