Mt. Bromo’s Status Lowered

Hotel occupancy rates around Mt. Bromo in Probolinggo, East Java, have not increased despite the recently revised alert status.

“Hotel occupancy around Mt. Bromo is only at 75 percent,” the head of the local hotel and restaurant association, Digdoyo Jamaludin, told Tempo yesterday.

According to Digdoyo, when Bromo’s status was still on high alert, the association, which includes 12 hotels and restaurants, only made 190 of the 230 rooms available.

However, since the Volcanic, Mitigation and Geological Disaster Center lowered Bromo’s status to aware, the association has made all rooms available.
