AirAsia moves to Terminal 3 at Jakarta airport

Low-cost carrier AirAsia Indonesia has moved all its operations at Soekarno Hatta International Airport in Jakarta to Terminal 3.

The state-of-the-art terminal, which formerly housed only Indonesian domestic flights, officially opened for international flights earlier.

The sleek and eco-friendly Terminal 3 has served as AirAsia Indonesia’s main base of domestic operations since April 15th 2009.

The airline now consolidates its Jakarta hub operations under one roof by serving both domestic and international flights from Terminal 3.

“Terminal 3 is without question a public facility the nation can be truly proud of,” said Dharmadi, president director of AirAsia Indonesia.

Terminal 3 provides complimentary Wi-Fi and filtered drinking water fountains and relies on natural daylight rather than on artificial lighting which significantly lowers electricity consumption.

AirAsia Indonesia operates a brand new fleet of Airbus A320s, which by year-end will consist of 16 aircraft.

Five more planes are set to be delivered in 2012, which will make a total fleet of 21.

In 2012, the airline aims to transport approximately 4 million passengers from and to its Jakarta hub alone, up around 33 per cent from this year’s number that stands at an estimated three million.
