Garuda expects passengers to reach 22 millions in 2012

PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk. (GIAA) is expecting a passenger growth of around 30 percent to 22 millions this year from 17.1 millions last year.

Its president director, Emirsyah Satar, said here on Wednesday the flag carrier flew 17.1 million passengers in 2011 consisting of 13.9 million domestic passengers and 3.2 million international passengers.

"This is a growth of 36.2 percent from 12.5 million passengers in 2010," he said.

Emirsyah said the production capacity (seat availability per kilometer/ASK) in 2011 also rose by 26 percent to 32.5 billion compared to 25.8 billion in 2010.

Meanwhile Garuda has also been able to carry 229,000 tons of cargo which was up 10.8 percent compared to 207,000 tons in the previous year.

Regarding flight frequency, Emirsyah said it also rose by 26.6 percent to 130,043 flights in 2011 consisting of 108,381 domestic and 21,662 international flights.

On fleet development and expansion in 2011 he said Garuda received 14 new planes in the year consisting of two A3330-200s and nine B727-800s Next Generation and three A320s for Citilink.
