A number of artists and socialites are scheduled to perform in a play based on the Javanese legend of Roro Mendut this Saturday at the Teater Jakarta, Central Jakarta.
The artists include actress Happy Salma and longtime actors Ray Sahetapy and Tio Pakusadewo.
Legenda Opera Roro Mendut, which is produced by Banyumili Productions and directed by Ida Soeseno, tells the story of a Javanese girl who refuses to become a concubine of a war commander from the Mataram Kingdom after the land she lives in is conquered by the kingdom.
Banyumili Productions, which was founded by local socialites, previously produced the play Roro Djonggrang, which was staged at the National Museum in 2009.
Ida Soeseno said that in Roro Mendut, audiences can expect more set changes, unlike Roro Djonggrang.
The show is slated to play twice on Saturday, with tickets starting at Rp 150,000 (US$16)(Jakarta Post)
