Indonesia promotes tourism in Dubai

Indonesia by way of the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry is taking part in this year`s 19th exhibition and business meeting of the tourism industry in the Middle East and Africa "Arabian Travel Market 2012" (ATM 2012).

The exhibition from April 30 to May 3 at the Dubai International Exhibition and Conference Center, was officially opened by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, First Secretary and Information, Social and Cultural Affairs Consul at the Indonesian Consulate General in Dubai Adiguna Wijaya told ANTARA`s London office on Wednesday.

On the occasion, Indonesian Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sapta Nirwandar handed a specific souvenir in the presence of Indonesian Consular General in Dubai Mansyur Pangeran.

A total of 26 Indonesian industries are taking part in the 200 square meters Indonesian pavilion, while state airline company Garuda Indonesia has an office behind the Indonesian pavilion.

Consul General Mansyur said Indonesia`s participation in the exhibition is very important because the ATM in Dubai is also on the list of important international exhibitions.

The tourism businesses taking part in the exhibition not only came from the Middle East and Africa, but also from Europe, South and Central Asia, and the United States.

Last year the tourism industry in Dubai managed to attract 9.3 million foreign tourists. Dubai airport, the fourth busiest in the world serves more than 150 foreign airline companies with 220 destinations in the world.

According to data, last year 93,273 tourists from the Middle East and 12,410 from UAE visited Indonesia.

The Indonesian Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry set a target of 160,000 tourists from the Middle East to visit Indonesia , and 8 million from other countries this year. (Antara)
