Komodo Park Ramps Up Infrastructure as Tourism Skyrockets

The East Nusa Tenggara administration said on Friday that it had started developing infrastructure in Komodo National Park to anticipate the surging number of visitors, as the park was officially named on Wednesday as one of the “New 7 Wonders of Nature.”

“We are building and rehabilitating facilities, including airports, roads, restaurants and star-rate hotels,” East Nusa Tenggara tourism agency head Abraham Klakik said in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, on Friday.

The central government and the private sector were also involved in the projects, he said.

Komodo National Park covers three larger islands of Komodo, Rinca and Padar, as well as numerous smaller nearby ones, in the Indonesian province of East Nusa Tenggara.

The park spans 1,817 square kilometers of area, and was founded in 1980 to protect komodo dragons, which are endemic to the islands.

Komodo gained notoriety when it was named one of the 28 finalists of the “New 7 Wonders of Nature” competition by the New7Wonders Foundation in July 2009.

Data show that there were only 15,000 visitors to Komodo National Park in 2009. The figure rose to 50,000 in 2011, and in January-April of this year alone 40,000 tourists visited the park.(Antara/JG)

  2. I want to promote my area as a tourist attraction in Indonesia especially those in his kualakapuas, central Kalimantan,
in my cities we have a river called the river Kapuas, and in the middle of the river there are three islands that make it very comfortable in the sights, and also in the district there kualakapuas mosaic that there are only 2 in the world created in the colonial era, and now only still in a church in the village Mandomai,

kualakapuas and there are also many local arts such as dance dances, traditional musical instruments, and materials processing skills are also a gift of nature,
and many more attractions objects that can make you in awe.

so it came to Kalimantan center, especially those of his kualakapuas.
