The Jakarta Administration, in collaboration with the central government, is set to host a three-week festival in Old Town, West Jakarta, in August to promote the area as a tourism icon of the city.
Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu said on Friday that the festival would be part of the ministry’s and the administration’s plan to develop Old Town Jakarta as a creative public sphere, with the involvement of artists and small and medium enterprises.
“The event details will be a surprise. But there will be lots of cuisine and shows from creative industry players. Museums will also have extended hours during the festival,” Mari said at City Hall after a meeting with Jakarta Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, adding that she and Jokowi also discussed plans to revitalize Old Town Jakarta as the center of creativity.
She said that both the ministry and the administration would establish a special task force for the revitalization, which would also involve the Finance and State-owned Enterprises Ministries. (Jakarta Post)
