Lion Air plane hits cow on Indonesia runway

An Indonesian passenger plane hit a cow on the runway and skidded off the tarmac Tuesday night.
None of the 110 passengers and crew on board the Lion Air Boeing 737-900 jet were injured, local reports said.

The cow was crushed to death under the wheels.
Pilot Iwan Permadi said he could smell "burning meat" when the plane struck the animal, Indonesian news agency Antara reported.
Permadi said he thought at first that several dogs were wandering onto the runway, but it turned out to be three cows.

The Gorontalo airport was temporarily closed following the crash. (Cnews/Antara)
