Tourist arrivals in Indonesia reach 5.6 million in the first eight months

A total of 5,643,271 tourists visited Indonesia in the first eight months of 2013, up 8.28 percent from 5,211,704 in the same period last year, according to the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry.
In August 2013, the number of tourists rose significantly by 21.37 percent to 771,009, from 634,194 in the same month last year, said Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu in a press statement on Wednesday.
"Almost all entry points, including Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Ngurah Rai International Airport, and Batam, recorded an increase in the number of tourists," Mari said as quoted by Antara news agency.
According to the data published by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Data and Information Center at the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry, the number of tourists from the five main markets of Indonesian tourism rose by double digits.
The number of tourists from China, for example, rose by 34.49 percent; Malaysia 28.16 percent; Singapore 20.54 percent; Japan 19.58 percent and Australia 12.18 percent.
"These figures indicate the success of the marketing campaigns of Indonesia's tourism industry in the five main markets," she said.
The largest increase was recorded from Saudi Arabia in August 2013 when the number of arrivals jumped by 238.46 percent to 20,548, from 6,071 in the same month last year, she added. (Jakarta Post)
