A Capital Idea: Bali Promotes Denpasar Heritage Tours

Efforts by the Denpasar Tourism Office to launch “Heritage City Tour” are being pegged to attract foreign tourists to spend time exploring Bali’s capital city.

Describing the target market for Denpasar Heritage Tours, the head of the Denpasar Tourism Office, Wayan Gunawan, told the State News Agency Antara he expects cruise ship passengers berthing at nearby Benoa would take the opportunity to view the historical sites offered by the tour.

The tourism official estimates 1,300 tourists from Australia and the U.S.A. are carried on a single cruise ship visiting Bali with at least 240 from that total likely to sign up for the planned “Heritage City Tour.”

The proposed tour would include visits to the Bali Museum and the Jagatnatha Palace.

Gunawan said there are 9 tourist objects to be found in Bali’s capital with the most popularly visited are the Badung market, the Kumbasari market, Bali museum and the Jagatnatha Palace.

Gunawan is trying to bring some of the economic benefits of Bali tourism to the Island’s capital, an area often overlooked by tourism visitors.
