Lombok Pearl Festival 2015: Composite Events showcasing a New Paradise

For one whole month from 18 August through 16 September 2015 the island of Lombok, next door neighbor to the paradise island of Bali- will come alive showcasing the best of the islands of Lombok and Sumbawa in the West Nusatenggara Province.

While, in actual fact featuring an array of cultural aspects and natural beauty of the islands for one month, the events come under the title: Lombok Pearl Festival 2015, Pearls being this region’s top product and main attraction.

No less than 24 events will be rolled out among which a week long exhibition of the best in Lombok and Sumbawa hand-woven textiles. This will be followed by displays of various creative products for which Lombok is famous, that include its fine pottery, bamboo crafts, silverwork, and more. There will also be the Mataram Carnival, Regional Cultural Performances, a Cultural Dialogue, folk games, wayang potehiperformances and the Miss West Nusatenggara Pageant.

The highlight of this series of events will be the Pearl Festival itself that will be held  along the popular Senggigi Beach, north west of Lombok, centered at Hotel Santosa.  

The pearls are cultured in the surrounding pristine seas that produce some of these most magnificent South Sea pearls of many shades, from pearly white to yellow, pink and black.  Afficionados of beauty will love to own some of these treasures, and there will also be sessions for buyers meet sellers.

Along with its clear blue seas and white beaches, Lombok has pulled many tourists for the unique tropical ambience of the islands of Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno, eco-treks up magnificent Mt. Rinjanivisits to the traditional village of Sade, where people still live in the old ways, or discovering some beautiful pottery pieces.  

While the island of Sumbawa is emerging as a new tourist destination, famous for its secluded haven at Pulau Moyo, rolling surf at Lakey Beach and the once devastating eruption of Mt. Tambora volcano

Today, Lombok is fast growing into a popular international tourist destination. Already a favorite with Australians, lately AirAsia regularly unloads tourist groups from Malaysia through its 10 x weekly flights from Kuala-Lumpur – Lombok and 5 flights weekly from Johor-Lombok direct.  Garuda Indonesia now also flies direct from Jakarta to Lombok, in addition to its Bali-Lombok flights. Indonesian domestic tourists are now also frequenting Lombok, not the least because of its outstanding pearl shopping opportunities and delicious food. 

Many tourists also take the direct fast ferries that ply between Bali and Gili Trawangan. (Indonesia.travel)
