World Class Rafters Take on the Challenges of the Citarik River

Participants from 23 countries from all over the globe are currently fiercely competing against each other in the world’s most prestigious rafting competition, the 15th World Rafting Championship (WRC) staged on the Citarik River, Sukabumi Regency, West Java Province. Participants include some of the world’s best rafters from the USA, Argentina, Costa Rica, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan, Russia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Brazil, Turkey, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

“Among many other countries, Indonesia has been chosen as Host for this championship after careful selection by the International Rafting Federation” said Chairman of the Indonesian Rafting Federation, Major General Buyung Lalana in his speech at the Opening Ceremony of the World Rafting Championship on Monday, 30th November 2015.

Taking place at the Pelabuhan Ratu town Square, the opening ceremony of WRC2015 was held most festively. Besides the Parade of WRC participants there were traditional Sundanese song and dance performances to highlight the occasion.

The competition is divided into Men’s and Women’s categories that include the divisions of: Open, Master (above 40), Under 19, and Under 23. The fierce competition among world class rafters are currently still ongoing from 30th November to 8th December 2015.
