Foreign tourist visits rose 6.68 percent in March

Foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in March this year has increased 6.68 percent compared to February, from 957,600 to 1.02 million visits, the Central Bureau of Statistics recorded. 

Foreign tourist visits in March included those who had entered the country through the 19 main gates and other routes, BPS Chief Suhariyanto said at a press conference.

"The number of foreign tourists who came through the 19 main gates was 933,650; it was 87,890 visits for other routes," Suhariyanto declared here, Tuesday.

Through the 19 main gates, there were 909,173 regular visitors and 24,474 special foreign visitors, he added. 

Meanwhile, the foreign tourists who came through other routes were 40,316, such as through cross-border posts, and 47,575 through other access points.

The number of regular tourists through 19 main gates increased 8.12 percent compared to the previous month.

The highest increase was recorded at Entikong gate, West Kalimantan, which increased 72.2 percent, followed by Adi Sumarmo Airport, Central Java with 49.04 percent and Juanda Airport in East Java with as much as 41.67 percent.

Meanwhile, there was a decline in the percentage of foreign visitors who come through other routes, compared to the previous month, at 6.57 percent.

The percentage of those who passed through the cross-border posts and from other access points reduced to 11.35 percent and 2.10 percent, respectively, compared to February 2017.

Cumulatively, in the January-March 2017 period, foreign tourist visits reached 3.01 million, or increased by 15.07 percent, compared with the same period last year, which registered around 2.62 million visitors.

The hotel occupancy rate in March reached an average 54.7 percent compared to March 2016, which recorded 52.88 percent. The hotel occupancy average for foreign tourists in Indonesia in March 2017 was 1.89 days.(Antara)
