The North Sulawesi administration is currently preparing to propose kolintang (Minahasa traditional musical instrument) as world cultural heritage to UNESCO, according to Antara.

"After [the recognition of] batik and angklung [traditional bamboo-based musical instrument] by UNESCO, now Indonesia will [propose] its signature culture of kolintang as world cultural heritage," said North Sulawesi Regional Culture Agency acting head Fery RJ Sangian in Manado on Thursday.

As part of the efforts to preserve the Minahasan traditional music instrument, Fery said the administration has sent the proposal letter to the Directorate General of Culture's cultural heritage and diplomacy director, as well as created a supporting team of 12 members consisting of North Sulawesi provincial administration and National Kolintang Enthusiast Association.

"The team has also conducted coordination meetings to discuss the technical and administrative requirements to support the effort to preserve kolintang," he added. (JakartaPost)
