Bali Optimistic 6.5 Foreign Tourists Will Visit in 2018

The Government remains optimistic that the 6.5 million foreign tourist arrivals targeted for Bali will be achieved in 2018.
In 2017, Bali welcomed nearly 5.7 million foreign tourists, meaning that a target of 6.5 million for 2018 represents an increase of 14%.

Many hotels are struggling with low occupancy that has been accentuated by the large number of new hotels now available in the market.

Colliers Indonesia reports that at least five new 4 and 5-star hotels commenced operations in the first quarter of 2018, adding 797 new hotel rooms to the marketplace.

The new recently opened hotels are:

The Government remains optimistic that the 6.5 million foreign tourist arrivals targeted for Bali will be achieved in 2018.
  • Radisson Blu Bali Uluwatu (240 rooms) – 4 Stars
  • Elements by Westin in Ubud (152 rooms) – 4 Stars
  • Marriott’s Bali Nusa Dua Garden (79 rooms) – 5 Stars
  • Como Uma Canggu (119 rooms) – 5 Stars
  • Renaissance Bali Residence & Spa Uluwatu (207 Rooms) – 5 Stars
On a cumulative basis through the end of the first quarter of 2018, Bali’s inventory of hotel rooms approaches some 58,000 starred hotel rooms:
  • 3 Star Hotels - more than 15,000 rooms
  • 4 Star Hotels - more than 23,000 rooms
  • 5 Star Hotels - more than 20,000 rooms
There are indications that the boom in hotel building may be nearing an end as banks are increasing reluctant to lend money for new hotel projects in a marketplace where construction has seemingly ground to a halt on a number of major properties that now blemish Bali’s skyline with half-finished buiilding shells.
