The Festival of Kali Besar will present Batavia arts and cultural show on Jl. Kali Besar Timur, Kota Tua (Old City) areas, West Jakarta. The festival will last for three days on August 30-31 and September 1.

Various traditional arts and cultures will perform in this festival, among others are palang pintu, gambang kromong, lenong Betawi, and cultural carnival. A number of booths and bazaars will also pack the festival themed Batavia in the Past.

The bazaar will present ancient culinary, silhouette art, the history of stamps, coffee communities, Indonesian fabric communities, and others.

West Jakarta Tourism Agency head Linda Enriany said one of the special events is the demonstration of Indonesian coffee-making will be held during the festival.

"Coffee is an integral part of Jakarta since its old days," she said in Jakarta, Saturday, August 25.

Linda said Jakarta, formerly known as Batavia, is one of the storage places for the coffee commodity. The street's name where the festival will be held is also closely related to the history of the archipelago coffee.

In this festival, West Jakarta Tourism Agency collaborates with Jeera Foundation which encourages ex-prisoners to discover creative activities, such as making coffee. (Tempo.co)
