Newly launched Banyuwangi-Cilacap train popular among tourists

The newly launched KA Wijaya Kusuma train that connects Banyuwangi in East Java and Cilacap in Central Java has gained significant popularity among tourists.
Introduced on Sept. 1, the train currently carries 180 percent of its capacity on a single trip. The number is derived from the total number of passengers embarking and disembarking the train en-route.

“Reports from the new Cilacap - Banyuwangi route are good, [showing] tourists’ interest. [It’s because of] the rapid increase of tours to Banyuwangi,” Mukti Jauhari, state railway operator PT KAI’s Corporate deputy director of Passenger Transport Marketing and Sales, said during KAIExpo 2018 press conference on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.

The majority of tourists heading to Banyuwangi are from Yogyakarta, Surakarta in Central Java and Madiun in East Java, while those heading to Cilacap mostly get off in Surabaya, East Java.
For tourists headed from Jakarta to Banyuwangi, Mukti recommends transiting in Yogyakarta, while tourists from Bandung in West Java can transit in Surakarta.
KA Wijaya Kusuma has four executive-class cars with a capacity of 200 passengers and three premium-class cars that can accommodate 192 passengers. Previously, KA Sritanjung, which had only economy class seats, was the single train available on this route.
The train is scheduled to depart daily from Banyuwangi at 11:05 a.m. and arrive in Cilacap at 4:42 a.m. the next day, while the return trip is scheduled for a 2:10 p.m. departure from Cilacap and a 7:02 a.m. arrival in Banyuwangi the next morning. (JakartaPost)
