Tourist arrivals in September this year plunged 88.95 percent: BPS

Indonesia received more than 153,500 foreign tourists in September, 2020, a decline of 5.94 percent compared to the previous month, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) said.

Tourist arrivals in September this year plunged 88.95 percent compared to 1.39 million in the same month last year, BPS chief Suhariyanto said during an online press conference here on Monday.

He said 9,970 of the 153,500 tourists traveled to Indonesia by air, 48,460 by sea, and 95,070 by land.

The number of tourists traveling to Indonesia by air plunged 98.89 percent in September this year compared to the same month last year, he informed.

All airports saw a decline in tourist arrivals, with the Sam Ratulangi Airport in North Sulawesi recording the smallest drop of 81.69 percent, he said.

Meanwhile, the number of tourists arriving at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Banten and the Ahmad Yani Airport in Central Java dropped 96.47 percent and 99.49 percent, respectively.

Adi Sucipto Airport in Yogyakarta, Lombok International Airport in West Nusa Tenggara, Supadio Airport in West Kalimantan, Hasanuddin Airport in South Sulawesi, and Sultan Badarudin II Airport in South Sumatra witnessed a 100-percent drop in the number of tourist arrivals.

Cumulatively, the number of tourist arrivals in the year ending September 30, 2020, reached 3.56 million, down 70.57 percent compared to the same period last year. (Antara)
