Dancers from five countries to perform in Jakarta

A total of 24 dancers from five countries have confirmed participation in the Regional Dance Summit here on August 4-8, 2009, which will be organized by the German Goethe Institute.

The dancers will come from Australia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and host Indonesia, Dewi Noviami, Goethe Institute cultural program assistant said here on Tuesday.

The organizing committee is still awaiting confirmation from four other countries Germany, New Zealand, Vietnam, and the Philippines, she said.

Two of the 24 dancers are from Indonesia namely Jacko and Fitri, she said, adding that the committee has yet determined the location of the dance performance.

According to her, besides the dance performance, the committee will also hold a workshop featuring choreographers and curators from nine countries.

Germany will send its international class choreographer, Thomas Lehman, who will speak about "conceptual dance" in the workshop, she said, while explaining that "Conceptual dance" is new dancing trend, which is different from the traditional and modern ones.

It will be the biggest event Goethe Institute had conducted so far in 2009, Noviami added.
