The 10th Indonesian Dance Festival will be held on June 14-17 at the Taman Ismail Marzuki (Jakarta Arts Center) and Institut Kesenian Jakarta (Jakarta Institute of Arts) in Cikini, Central Jakarta. With the theme, Powering the Future, the festival aims to gather local and international choreographers.
“We want to empower young choreographers by giving them a chance to expand their network with this event,” said festival director Maria Darmaningsih.
The event will feature work by both established and up-and-coming choreographers. Discussions and workshops, as well as classes conducted by maestros from South Africa and South Korea will also be held. Dancers from Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Germany and South Africa are scheduled to attend the event.
The festival was organized in 1993 by members of the faculty of performing arts of the Institut Kesenian Jakarta.
