Bang for Your Buck at Zenbu

Jakarta has its fair share of Japanese restaurants, ranging from the relatively cheap to the more high-end. Zenbu, which offers classic Japanese cuisine and fusion dishes, sits at the lower end of the price scale.

With restaurants in Senopati, South Jakarta, and Muara Karang, North Jakarta, Zenbu’s most recent addition opened two weeks ago at the Plaza Indonesia Extension.

While the menu remains the same, the design of the new establishment differs from its two sister restaurants.

More spacious with minimalist interior, the dominant colors at this Zenbu are white and gray, giving it a more chic and sophisticated feel.

The walls are adorned with black-and-white drawings of Japanese landmarks, including the Tokyo Tower and Mount Fuji.

The airy restaurant consists of a main dining area, which overlooks busy Jalan Thamrin, and a long sushi counter on the opposite side.

Located in the middle of a mall with no enclosing walls, there are a lot of people continually walking past and through the restaurant, making a relaxed dinner experience somewhat difficult.

One of Zenbu’s more unusual features is that its menu lists the number of calories in each dish that they have on offer.
