Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X on Sunday officially opened the 23rd Yogyakarta Art Festival (FKY).
A hundred dancers performed at the opening ceremony of the festival, which is themed “Creativity between Mountain and Ocean”, news portal kompas.com reported.
The Sultan said the FKY had to adopt a new spirit and innovation every year.
“That’s the ultimate achievement of art,” he said.
The Governor also handed out 5,000 whistles to visitors and gold bird awards to eight artists: Kartika Afandi, Bondan Nusantara, Nasirun, Pardiman Djojonegoro, Hari Leo, Whani Darmawan, Anter Asmorotedjo, and Ki Catur Benyek Kuncoro.
