Treasures of Bali – the 2nd Edition

Treasures of Bali – a Celebrating Bali’s Rich Array of Museums.

(6/19/2011) The Bali Association of Museums (HIMUSBA), chaired by Drs. I Nyoman Gunarsa, have launched the second edition of ”Treasures of Bali” detailing the many wonders of Bali’s museums.

The book launching took place at a special ceremony held at the Kori Agung Surya Candra Murti – Nyoman Gunarsa Museum in Klungkung on June 6, 2011, attended by Bali governor Made Mangku Pastika, members of the diplomatic corps and museum owners from across Bali.

The first edition of “Treasures of Bali” was published in 2005. The second edition of the book will, like the first, celebrate the rich variety of museums found on Bali housing collections of fauna, flora, geological samples, weaponry, shells, paintings, cartoons, masks, the study of volcanoes and even a museum dedicated to marketing.

Gunarsa praised museums as the repositories of human knowledge covering all aspects of human existence. He added that the quality of a country’s museums reflect that country’s sense of self-worth, tracking the development of the host country’s civilization.

Said Gunarsa. “museums are the window of knowledge, becoming important lesson plans guiding the way to a brighter future, without sacrificing who we are as a people.” He continued, explaining that museums are not buildings where society merely preserves, stores and documents a nation’s treasures, but also a place to enrich the knowledge and understanding of the general public.

Addressing the Indonesian context, Gunarsa championed museums, citing their ability to unify the differing cultures under a single national identity.
“Treasures of Bali” - written by Richard Mann is an edition of 268-pages and will soon be available leading book stores in Bali.
