UNESCO has named the saman, one of Aceh’s famous dances, part of the world’s intangible cultural heritage.
“They will announce it officially on November 24,” Deputy National Education and Culture Minister Wiendu Nuryanti said on Saturday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Wiendu said that UNESCO’s recognition of saman would add to the Indonesian items already on the cultural register including keris daggers, Batik cloth and the angklung Sundanese musical instrument.
