Indonesia's foreign tourist arrival up 4.3 % in February

The number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in February increased by 4.3 percent to 592,500 year on year, the statistic bureau announced here on Monday.

In Bali, the center of Indonesia's tourism industry, the number of foreign holidaymakers coming into the tourist resort increased by 3.82 percent to 209,200 people, head of the bureau named only Suryamin told a press conference.

Indonesia foreign tourist arrival rose to 7.65 million people last year, higher than that of 7.0 million people in the previous year, the bureau said. The debt crisis in Europe would not have a significant impact on the country's tourism industry as the government has diversified its market, Indonesian Minister for Tourism and Creative Economy Mari Elka Pangestu said.

Therefore, the government expected 9.5 million holidaymekers visiting Indonesia by 2014, the minister told XInhua. The government targets to lure visitors from countries that have emerged relatively unscathed from the credit crisis including China, India and Australia, she said The Indonesian tourism industry has recovered from the impact of terrorism, and epidemics.
