The Sendratari Ramayana troupe at Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta have set a Guinness World Record for the largest number of dancers in a regular performance.
“We never heard of such a thing before. This is fantastic,” Guinness World Record's client service director Lucia Sini Gagliesi said.
Sendratari Ramayana's record-setting performance of 'Sacred Fire' (Api Suci) from the Ramayana on Monday evening involved 230 dancers and 30 gamelan players.
Purnomo Siswoprasetji, the president director of PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko, received a certificate from Guinness after the performance ended.
Purnomo said he hoped that the record would create more popularity for Sendratari Ramayana globally (Jakarta Post)
