Developments from Main Source Markets
Australians - As the accompanying charts demonstrate, Australian arrivals remain strong to Bali. The Australian have apparently shaken off the doldrums evidenced earlier in the year with arrivals January to June 16.06% now ahead of the same period last year. By a significant margin the Australians remain the top foreign inbound market for Bali.
Mainland Chinese - Reflecting the current propensity for the Chinese to look for new destinations outside of Vietnam and Thailand, Mainland Chinese arrivals for the first six months of 2014 are 41.09% ahead of last year. Worth noting: The Chinese have now moved into 2nd place among major foreign markets for Bali.
Japanese - The Japanese rally seen late last year has begun to fizzle. Japanese arrivals are down 3.04% for the first half of 2014. As a result, Japan, who once dominated tourist arrivals to Bali, are now in 4th place and shaping up to move to 5th in the coming few months.
Russians - The government has repaired what were obviously incorrect figures reported in May. Now corrected, the figures show Russian numbers have declined 12.03% in the first half of the yea - reflecting a downturn globally in Russian travel.
