Radar Bali reports that while Bali enters the traditionally high season of June many properties are failing to reach 70% occupancy, with a number leading hotels now making bonus night offers in the effort to boost those figures.
The lower than normal occupancy rates were confirmed the Secretary of the Denpasar Chapter of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI-Denpasar), AA Ngurah Adhi Ardana, in statements to the press on Wednesday, June 25, 2014.
Ardana said the poor occupancy levels extended to other areas beyond Bali’s capital with many operators hoping that the coming fasting month and presidential elections will provide at least a modest boost to business.
The PHRI official blamed the poor occupancy rates on the flood of new rooms now on sale and the lack of promotion or special events that would help tackle up the excess room supply.
He also bemoaned the change in the market place over the past decades. At one time, he said, tourist came to Bali to linger and visit cultural areas. Continuing, he said modern tourists visit Bali for much shorter periods and spend most of their time at entertainment centers than visitors of the recent past, while modern villa guests often spend their entire time in Bali at their villas.
