West Java police spokesman Sr. Comr. Sulistyo Pudjo Hartono said no casualties were reported but the fire destroyed much of Puncak Pass Hotel, the mountain pass's oldest standing hotel situated at its highest point.
The fire was first spotted at 4.10 a.m., Sulistyo said, when the hotel's cooks heard a loud bang that was followed by raging flames. Officials were quickly dispatched to the scene and the fire was contained two hours later.
Authorities have sealed off the building and launched an investigation.
