Indonesia has great potential for golf tourism: Ministry

The Ministry of Tourism stated that Indonesia has a great potential for sports tourism, especially golf, and could lure more international tourists to the country.

The Deputy of International Tourism Marketing Development at the Ministry of Tourism, I Gde Pitana said on Thursday that the ministry during its participation in the Thailand Golf Expo in Bangkok (May12 to 15) had received a lot of suggestions to develop golf tourism in Indonesia.

Indonesia is also expected to host more international golf competitions.

A survey conducted by the ministry during the expo revealed that a potential US$1,338,871 can be earned from hosting 921 golf tourists.

"This will have a positive impact on golf tourism development in Indonesia," Pitana said.

At present, Bangka Belitung, Batam, Surabaya and Bogor are cities with the best golf tourism packages in Indonesia.

During the biggest golf exhibition in Thailand, the ministry had brought 11 national golf tourism industries, such as Tering Bay Golf and Country Club Batam and Ciputra Golf, Club and Hotel Surabaya, to promote the national golf tourism overseas.

Pitana said Indonesia has hundreds of international standard golf courses.

"Indonesian golf courses offer very competitive prices, along with good facilities and incomparable natural views," Pitana said. (Antara)
