Cempedak Private Island to Open in Indonesia's Riau Archipelago

Cempedak Island, located just off the coast of Singapore in Indonesia’s Riau Archipelago, is a unique private island with sustainability at the forefront of its ground-breaking design.

Approaching by private speed boat across shimmering azure waters towards the white sands of Cempedak, the island’s stunning hand-crafted bamboo villas will be just visible through the natural jungle-foliage. And this is a true retreat – luxury on Cempedak means space and time to truly disconnect – with a maximum of 40 guests, adults only policy, no televisions and an island that has been slowly developed over several years to preserve the natural habitat and wildlife, every guest will find a secluded idyll on Cempedak and going barefoot is positively encouraged.

Cempedak is a pioneer in its radical use of sustainable materials – all buildings have been constructed from bamboo and local alang alang grass resulting in a beautiful design which brings bamboo into the luxury sphere. Cempedak Island will have twenty hand-crafted sustainable bamboo villas, architecturally designed to create the impression of being cocooned within a lush tropical paradise, looking out to the blue ocean. Offering over 150 sqm of space, each villa is set over two storeys and will feature a generous deck and plunge pool that welcomes the outside in. A breath-taking spiral staircase will lead to a spacious bedroom with folding glass doors onto a balcony, the perfect private location for intimate sundowners looking out onto the horizon.

How to get there…
Take a 55 minute ferry ride from Singapore to Bintan. Cempedak drivers will collect you and take you on a one hour journey through Indonesian villages to the dock at Kawal on the east coast of Bintan. It is then a 25 minute ride out on “Mana” one of the private speedboats to Cempedak. VIP clearance at the ferry terminal on Bintan is included in the transport package.
