EAST JAVA TOP HERITAGE, VOLCANOES AND BEACHES: HIGHLIGHTS AT MATTA FAIR 2017

With rapidly increasing connectivity between Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Surabaya, capital city of East Java, this province will be the highlight andmain theme of Indonesia's Pavilion at MATTA (Malaysian Association of Tour & Travel Agents) Fair 2017, scheduled to take place in Hall 3, Putra World Trade Center (PWTC) Kuala Lumpur from 17th to 19th March 2017.

Covering a total area of 324 square meters with 36 booths, the pavilion places the spotlight on East Java through the architecture of the ancient Majapahit Kingdom with its entrance gate the Wringin Lawang Temple, as well as other amazing attractions among East Java's top tourist destinations. These include the spectacular volcanic landscape of Mount Bromo, the unique Blue Fire in the Ijen Crater, Banyuwangi's G-land Surf paradise, the cool refreshing hillside of Malang, and much, much more.

Deputy for International Marketing of the Ministry of Tourism, I Gede Pitana said that Indonesia's participation in the event is aimed at pushing the promotion and maintaining the strong pull of Indonesia's tourism destinations particularly in the South East Asia market. Indonesia's Pavilion will feature 80 participating tourism industries from 15 provinces that are most popular in Malaysia and in ASEAN, which are: Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau Islands, Bengkulu, Jambi, South Sumatra, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and South Sulawesi. Around 60%, or 48 participants are Travel Agents/Tour Operators, members of ASITA (Indonesia Travel Agents Association) that have already partners among MATTA members and can therefore can conduct direct sales to buyers and the public. Meanwhile, 40% or 32 participants are in Accommodations, Attraction Management, Destination Management 
Organizations (DMO), and other organizations that offer information as well as products and destination promotion.

At the pavilion, the Indonesian Tourism Ministry has prepared exciting programs such as quizzes, games, workshops, art performances, Indonesian drinks and refreshments, and Spa massages, besides the more serious B to C sessions, Information services and promotion materials distribution.  

“On top of promoting main destinations in Indonesia, MATTA Fair 2017 is expected to generate transactions on the many tour packages available, in efforts to attract a more significant number of tourists from Malaysia to Indonesia,” said Assistant Deputy for South East Asia Market Development of the Ministry of Tourism, Rizky Handayani. Rizky Handayani further commented that MATTA Fair 2017 is a potential platform to continue the Ministry's program which focuses on branding, advertising, and selling. Since the event is a business to customers (B2C) fair, this is the opportunity for Indonesia's tourism businesses to expand their network and at the same time offer packages through local partners in Malaysia.

In 2017, the Ministry of Tourism has targeted to welcome 1,772,000 visitorsfrom Malaysia to Indonesia. Last year, the total of number of tourists from Malaysia stood at 1,225,458. MATTA Fair is the perfect stage to attract more tourists from Malaysia to Indonesia. (Indonesia.travel)
