Bandung Mayor Ridwan “Emil” Kamil officiated on Sunday the inauguration of China Town on Jl. Klenteng, a new tourism spot that offers a blend of Chinese and Sundanese cultures.
“Hopefully, the beauty of this place will affirm Bandung as an unequaled champion in tourism,” Emil said during the event.

He added that the new tourism site would help build the provincial capital’s image as a shining example of unity in diversity, where residents respect each other despite their differences in ethnicity, culture, religion and race.

“We hope this will inspire other regions to realize that diversity is the strength of Indonesia, which just celebrated its 72nd Independence Day,” the mayor said as quoted by tempo.co.
Bandung’s China Town features 77 kiosks, many of which display products from micro, small and medium enterprises, such as clothes, handicrafts and food.

The idea to turn the area into a commercial and cultural attraction came from the Bandung Society Foundation (Permaba), according to Lucky Tjandradinata, president director of PT Usaha Wisata Bersama Bandung, the company in charge of managing the 3,000-square-meter site. (JakartaPost)
