Indonesia's largest botanical garden to reopen this year

Slated to reopen this year, the 156-hectare Kuningan Botanical Garden in Kuningan regency, West Java, is said to be the largest of its kind in Indonesia.
According to kompas.com, the garden located near Mount Ciremai National Park opened in 2015, but closed down in 2016 due to unfinished construction projects.

Kuningan Regent Acep Purnama said it later reopened in 2017 and attracted many visitors, but overcapacity and a lack of preparation from management damaged the plants.

"We shut down the garden again to allow management to make the necessary preparations," said Acep, adding that it would feature various types of vegetation.

Kuningan Youth, Sports and Tourism Agency head Jaka Chaerul said among the challenges in creating such a garden was preparing the human resources needed in each of its facilities, such as the cottage, the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) office, the garden itself and café. (JakartaPost)
