Yogyakarta's hotels are 80 percent booked this week, while hotels in the Malioboro tourist district report they are sold out, according to a trade group.
The occupancy rate was well above the 50 to 60 percent recorded last year, when memories of nearby Mount Merapi's eruption were still fresh, Istidjab Danunagoro, head of the Yogyakarta chapter of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association, said on Sunday as reported by tribunnews.com.
Many hotels will apply surcharges between Rp 100,000 and Rp 300,000 during the year-end high season, which runs from Dec. 24 to Dec. 31.
Hotel Santika, for example, applied a surcharge of Rp 300,000, while the Jogjakarta Plaza Hotel increased its rates by Rp 200,000.
