Since its inception five years ago, the Java Soulnation Festival has proven itself a successful musical and cultural event.
Year after year, Soulnation has showcased a wide variety of talents from Indonesia and abroad, and has also served as a breeding ground for aspiring local artists hoping to gain international exposure.
This year’s Java Soulnation Festival, scheduled for Sept. 28 to 30 at Istora Senayan Jakarta, will be bigger, better and more exciting, organizers say.
“Expectations grow and we strive to be better, year after year,” Sigit Diopsaputra, head of national promotions for cigarette company Djarum, one of the sponsors, told a press conference last week.
Java Soulnation 2012 boasts a lineup of foreign artists, including James Morrison, Jay Sean, Robin Thicke, Hercules & Love Affair, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Valerius. For 1990s music enthusiasts, this year’s Soulnation will feature the legendary R&B vocal group Color Me Badd.
There is also an exciting spectrum of homegrown artists, including Sandhy Sondoro, Easy Tiger, Raisa, Bayu Risa, Dis and That, Project 9 (RAN and Soulvibe) and Bottlesmoker. This year’s Soulnation will also showcase Wisnu, an Indonesian singer who was a finalist on “Norwegian Idol” in 2006.
