The areas Mount Tambora in Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and Ruteng in Manggarai Flores, East Nusa Tenggara will be transformed into an eco-tourism corridor. The mountain is known for its eruption in April 11, 1815 that killed 92.000 people.
Ruteng was chosen because of the unique local people’s traditional homes and the cultural life of the Manggarais, one of the biggest tribes in Flores Island. Environmental consultant, Suhartini Sekartjakrarini, said eco-tourism in these areas is expected to encourage tourism development in other parts of eastern Indonesia.
